In Georgian tradition, the Batonebi are the lords who represent seven childhood infectious diseases: measles, rubella, chickenpox, whooping cough, smallpox, mumps, and scarlet fever. They come from a sea of milk and honey, a metaphor for sunrays and clouds, and choose their host when a rash first appears. Their arrival is treated as a visitation that calls for a quiet and orderly home. Any disturbance is believed to worsen the illness while they are present.

PERFUMER’S NOTES
“Batonebi is the closest I’ll ever get to creating a true gourmand. I kept circling the idea of a fresh glass of milk: unctuous dairy, something fatty, waxy and textural, with nuances of plastic. The fragrance let me work in a space that sits opposite a dark narrative, leaning instead into peacefulness and recuperation. It became an experimental showcase, and it allowed me to explore olfactory contrast within the Ex Fabularum collection. It carries several Georgian references, and I sourced a specific species of rose from Georgia that has a more fragile, delicate nature. Despite seeming simple, the fragrance is perhaps my most complex.”
